This short film showcases some of Tischler’s best techniques for tackling a monstrously big project

This painting depicts Oxer’s Lookout, in Karijini National Park, Western Australia, and an incredible landscape! The view taken in this painting differs from my usual work, as it is largely an aerial scene. Only when viewed from above, can one appreciate the extreme depth and drama of the outback landscape!

This painting is one of my most EPIC projects to date, and certainly the most complicated paintings I’ve ever created.

I’d love to show you how I did it!

This tutorial has some great techniques that are actionable and applicable, perfect for overcoming the challenges presented by monumental canvases!

The techniques I present in this tutorial are transferable to smaller paintings too! I walk you through all of the materials I use and why I use them, followed by the essential design process. From here, I show you how I work the painting up in layers, starting with the block-in. I then lay more colour over the top of the block-in layer, with more intricate brushwork. This is followed by the long and painstaking process of detail!

I have taken the last 2 and a half years, and a total of 6 months of working time on this project and boiled that down to an hour! If you only have a little bit of time but want to learn skills you’ll use for the rest of your creative journey… CHECK THIS OUT!

Let me show you how to create an epic 3D painting using these awesome techniques!

If you haven’t already, check out the YouTube video of Big Red here!
