“This EPIC tutorial will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen! It’s loaded with information to help you take your landscapes up a notch, into EPIC territory.”

Join me in the studio as I paint this massive scene depicting MILFORD SOUND NZ.

This tutorial has been in production for over a year! In that time I have distilled what I think are the essential techniques for landscape painting, and I share with you some of my SECRETS for how to create amazing scenes in oils. “EPIC MILFORD” is a jam packed tutorial full of real, actionable techniques that you can apply directly to your own paintings. I wanted to bring all of my ideas together in one place and demonstrate my methodology in a simple, systematic way.
Painting at a large scale can pose several challenges for us to overcome. With the right guidance and information, you’ll be handling large scenes like a pro! This tutorial is not only for large paintings – use this information for small studio paintings as well!
In this tutorial I break down my entire process from the very beginning, in the design phase. We then work the design up into a small oil study then a digital design. With the groundwork firmly established I take you with me from the very first strokes all the way to the crispy final details!
If you ever wanted to create a scene rich with detail, light, depth and atmosphere, this is for you! If you ever wanted to expertly render forms and create incredible effects with clouds, mountains, trees, grass and water; THIS IS FOR YOU!

THIS IS THE TUTORIAL THAT WILL CONTINUE TO INSPIRE YOU FOR MANY YEARS TO COME, IN YOUR OWN STUDIO!

I’ve dedicated the last 16 years to mastering painting; let me show you some great techniques that will save you the time and effort grinding it out in the studio. Take your landscape paintings further – check out this tutorial!

What you will learn

  • I will show you the Materials I use for creating an oil painting, from the paint and mediums to the brushes and grounds.
  • You’ll see the entire painting process broken down in easy to understand steps, from the Sketch to blocking in and even applying the fine details.
  • You’ll see up close how I use brushwork to define the subject
  • I will show you my palette where Colour Mixing plays an important role in creating realism!
  • I use many mediums in my process and here I keep it simple and share a tried and true application
  • The painting is built up to a rich surface by layering the paint over many passes.
  • I show you how modelling with paint defines form creating a 3D scene!
  • I show you how to paint incredible intricate detail with clouds, mountains, snow, atmosphere, light, rocks, grasses and water!
Well done, I enjoyed it a lot!  What I like especially is how you give so much detail about what you’re doing – down to the mix of colours, brush type and size. I learned so much from what you say, but also just watching you work and witnessing your process. It’s affecting my own paintings at a more successful level. Looking forward to your next tutorial.

I finished viewing both EPIC Milford and Kimberley downloads…..for the first time. I have found the Mother Load in landscape painting tutorials. Everything needed in landscapes is here. Everything covered can be applied to any size painting.  The value of these tutorials is beyond measure. I love how you include me in all of your planning, thoughts, and considerations and teach me about colour mixing, composition, techniques, and observation. That’s exactly what it feels like. These tutorials were made for me. I will repeatedly watch these videos, learning more each and every time.

I’m just halfway in the Epic Milford demonstration videos, but it is just enough for me to say that it is another success work by Andrew Tischler, who is not only a gifted artist but also a generous teacher. He truly shows the nuts and bolts of a complex painting project with ease and virtuosity; he explains extensively his “Epic” approach, from field photographic collections to the hard thinking process that goes on in his studio to design his composition…that is, I think, the essence of the real art of drawing and painting that most layperson does not understand or can appreciate. Andrew is not afraid of showing all: his decision process, changing his approaches as he paints part of a scene, or even interacting direct Alla-prima with some indirect layer (glazing) techniques, which shows how confident he is in his art. I am learning a great deal from his videos, in particular, I am learning how to confront my old fear of re-evaluating my own works as I go, making changes to my mistakes, and how to do my paint mixings in a simpler way without fussing around on my palette. I highly recommend Andrew’s Epic Milford as well as his other fantastic tutorial videos for people like me, or anyone who wants to learn painting the right way.

EPIC is the perfect description for this video. I have bought and watched numerous videos from other accomplished artists, usually with a focus on one or two main topics. Your video, however, covers EVERYTHING, in the perfect amount of detail, from idea development, reference gathering, preliminary studies, transferring the image onto a huge canvas, and talking the viewer through your entire thought process from beginning to the end. You cover everything subject that is found in a landscape: design/composition, lighting and sunrays, sky/clouds, mountains, trees and branches, water, rocks, grasses, values, colour harmony, atmospheric depth… you capture it all. Over 7.5 hours of jam-packed gold. I highly recommend this video to anyone interested in learning or looking to up their game in capturing beautiful landscapes. Your work is MAGNIFICENT and your skill for teaching is UNMATCHED!

Q & A

What do I need to know before downloading the tutorial?
The files are relatively large so ensure you have enough space on your computer before commencing the download. Once i’ts saved on your computer you can then save this to a USB stick or portable drive to free up space. You’ll need a good/fast internet connection to download the tutorials, as the speed of your connection will determine how long it takes to complete the download. Make sure you download files individually, one at a time.  An interrupted internet connection will cause the download to pause so please if your download stops, un-pause it instead of starting again.

If I need technical support regarding downloads, can I contact you?

Absolutely, if you have a technical issue, we are only an email away!

Are your tutorials good for beginners?
I make tutorials that everyone will gain something from. If you are a beginner, then this is a great place to start. You’ll no doubt learn some crucial techniques to accelerate your development as a painter. If you’re an advanced or professional artist you’ll come away with some new tricks refreshing your approach to creating paintings.

Can acrylic painters gain something from your tutorials?
Absolutely, whilst the mediums have their differences many of the concepts here are the same. It all comes down to colour and composition and these elements are universal in painting

How much of the process do you share?
All of it! Whilst this presentation doesn’t show every single brushstroke I have filmed every stage of this painting. This piece took well over 80 hours; I boiled it down to the essential techniques into 7 hours!

Do you talk about colour mixing?
Yes! Frequently. Colour mixing is important and intermittently through the presentation I show my palette and how I mix some of the colours in this painting.

Can the viewer paint along with you?
You’re more than welcome to paint along. However I recommend using this tutorial as a guide to paint your own scenes and take these techniques to create your own unique vision. This will give you the nudge you need to take your paintings to the next level.

Do you show how to achieve details?
Yes, I have zoomed in to show some of these finer details being applied, particularly on the trees and in the grasses in the foreground

Does the download work for iPad & Phones?
Yes, you can use your iPad to view the download, but please find out what software your version will require to watch a MP4 file first.
